چکیده

11 Airborne measurements within the urban mixing layer (360 m) over Greater London are used to quantify CO2 12 emissions at the meso-scale. Daytime CO2 fluxes, calculated by the Integrative Mass Boundary Layer (IMBL) 13 method, ranged from 46 to 104 μmol CO2 m -2 s -1 for four days in October 2011. The day-to-day variability of 14 IMBL fluxes is at the same order of magnitude as for surface eddy-covariance fluxes observed in central 15 London. Compared to fluxes derived from emissions inventory, the IMBL method gives both lower (by -37%) 16 and higher (by 19%) estimates. The sources of uncertainty of applying the IMBL method in urban areas are 17 discussed and guidance for future studies is given. 18 Capsule: CO2 airborne-derived fluxes by Boundary Layer Mass balance are an independent measure of meso19 scale urban fluxes complementing urban eddy-covariance fluxes and emissions inventory 20

Chemically - resolved aerosol eddy covariance flux measurements in urban Mexico City during MILAGRO 2006

As part of the MILAGRO 2006 field campaign, the exchange of atmospheric aerosols with the urban landscape was measured from a tall tower erected in a heavily populated neighborhood of Mexico City. Urban submicron aerosol fluxes were measured using an eddy covariance method with a quadrupole aerosol mass spectrometer during a two week period in March, 2006. Nitrate and ammonium aerosol concentra...

Eddy covariance flux measurements of pollutant gases in urban Mexico City

Eddy covariance (EC) flux measurements of the atmosphere/surface exchange of gases over an urban area are a direct way to improve and evaluate emissions inventories, and, in turn, to better understand urban atmospheric chemistry and the role that cities play in regional and global chemical cycles. As part of the MCMA-2003 study, we demonstrated the feasibility of using eddy covariance technique...

Controls of carbon dioxide concentrations and fluxes above central London

Eddy-covariance measurements of carbon dioxide fluxes were taken semi-continuously between October 2006 and May 2008 at 190 m height in central London (UK) to quantify emissions and study their controls. Inner London, with a population of 8.2 million (~5000 inhabitants per km 2 ) is heavily built up with 8% vegetation cover within the central boroughs. CO2 emissions were found to be mainly cont...

Spatial and temporal variability of urban fluxes of methane, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide above London, UK

We report on more than 3 years of measurements of fluxes of methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) taken by eddy-covariance in central London, UK. Mean annual emissions of CO2 in the period 2012–2014 (39.1± 2.4 ktons km−2 yr−1) and CO (89± 16 tons km−2 yr−1) were consistent (within 1 and 5 % respectively) with values from the London Atmospheric Emissions Inventory, but mea...

Measurement of NO(x) fluxes from a tall tower in Central London, UK and comparison with emissions inventories.

Direct measurements of NOx concentration and flux were made from a tall tower in central London, UK as part of the Clean Air for London (ClearfLo) project. Fast time resolution (10 Hz) NO and NO2 concentrations were measured and combined with fast vertical wind measurements to provide top-down flux estimates using the eddy covariance technique. Measured NOx fluxes were usually positive and rang...
